Two weeks too fast!

Well I'm a little behind on updating seeing as I am just now doing a two week re-cap and our baby boy will be three weeks tomorrow, gahh!! He needs to stop growing and time needs to slow down! Anyhoo, I have been writing down all the fun things about our Benson and life as of late, so here we go!

Benson was 7 lbs 14 oz and 20 inches long when he born but while waiting for my milk to come in at the hospital our little guy dropped down to 6lbs 9oz! But I am proud to say that at his two week check up he was back up to his birth weight and then some weighing in at 8 lbs! Also he has grown an inch and a half measuring in at 21 1/2 inches long now! Our handsome boy is growing so fast, I guess he does have his daddy's genes...  :)

Well here's what we know about our little Benson so far!
  • Benson loves his hand held (he get's that from his Mommy). Anytime he is fussy, if you hold his hand, he almost always calms down!
  • He hates when we swaddle his arms in his blankets! If we ever swaddle his arms in tight and lay him down for bed, we always here him busily grunting along as he wiggles his arms out of his blanket. He loves to keep his hands close to his face. Funniest thing ever!
  • He is so observant! He looks around and really soaks in all his surroundings. He will lock eyes with you and study all your features and facial movements. I can sit and have an entire conversation with him and he will never break eye contact! We love it!
  • The only time Benson really cries is when he is getting his diaper or clothes changed! He HATES his diaper being changed! In fact- when he was circumcised he didnt cry or fuss once during the whole procedure...until they changed his diaper. LOL!
  • Benson loves it when his Daddy holds him, especially over the shoulder. It almost always puts him to sleep.
  • He is a wiggly little one too when he is getting his diaper changed which doesn't make the process any quicker or easier!
  • He loves to snuggle with me in bed in the morning were we almost always fall asleep!
  • He is a great sleeper! He wakes up like clock work at 2:30 am and 6:30 am, eats for 40 mins, gets his diaper changed and almost always falls right back to sleep on his own in his bed. Dreamy!
  • He loves to talk to himself/sing, or at least thats what we call it! He will just make all these cute little noises while he hangs out in his bouncer chair! It melts me!!
  • He is a grunter!! He grunts all the time. His daddy calls him Sir Grunts-A-Lot :)
  • Benson rarely spits up! I think I can count maybe twice that our baby boy has spit up.
  • He makes the FUNNIEST faces when he is waking up and LOVES to stretch. This whole process takes about 15 mins or so for him to finally wake up. It's Mommy's favorite part of her day!
  • Benson loves to pee while we are changing his diapers and has pee'd on himself a few times in the process. It's not Mommy's and Daddy's proudest moments as parents but we are learning!
  • He almost always his his ankles crossed when Mommy's nursing him
  • He loves his head rubbed and will completely relax if you rub his head and tickle his face
  • When he was first born he had a very high pitched squeal of a cry. That cry only lasted a couple days, and since then has gone. It was pretty funny, and slightly ear piercing so we are kinda glad that didn't stick!
  • Benson breathes heavily like his daddy when he's sleeping, squeaks and hums too. It's the cutest thing!
  • Falls asleep instantly whenever he's in his car-seat
  • Benson loves to give kisses! (there not real kisses but we like to think they are!) Whenever he is being burped over the shoulder he will almost always find your face and give you the yummiest wet kisses ever. Which we LOVE!
  • He is soo strong and has been almost from Day 1. He can hold his head up really well and his arms and legs are so strong too. It's surprising sometimes!
  • Benson loves to suck on his hands and fingers or really anything.
  • We keep his hands covered with mittens or socks to keep him from scratching his face because he loves to have his hands close by his face and his nails are hard to keep clipped constantly!
  • He is probably the only person on the face of the planet that actually enjoys my singing!
  • Random times throughout the day Benson will get 'really busy' and start moving his arms, legs and head around and breath all excitedly!
  • He gets the hiccups almost every time we feed him
  • Daddy loves every time Benson sneezes, we think it's the cutest thing! And Mommy loves Benson's yawns, they take over his entire face!
  • He had his first bath on Friday by his Mama and his Great Grandmother (Mama B) and actually did surprisingly well!
  • He is already on a sleeping, eating, play time schedule and does so well with Mommy all day!
And a little side note on Mommy- I am 4 lbs shy of my pre-pregnancy weight! Hallelujah! :)

Life for Mommy and Daddy has been absolutely blissful! We are cherishing every moment with our handsome baby boy. BUT weaved in between the cherished moments and the blissfulness is a tired, emotional, sleep deprived new Momma and I wouldn't change it for the world! Even though having a newborn adds an extra element of busyness to life, at the same time I feel like life has simplified as well. Among the endless amounts of diaper changes and feedings we find ourselves laughing and getting excited about the simplest of things that our sweet Benson does and find genuine enjoyment out of every moment in the day (and night!).

The first two weeks home were slightly challenging because a lot of my family was sick and unable to help out. Also David had to start work and school back up the Monday after we got out of the Hospital! That first week-to-week and a half was really hard but I think it was better that way because David and I really had to work as a team and depend on each other. I think it is partially why the transition into a family of three has been such a smooth one! David has been incredible, and is a 'hands on' daddy! When he see's a need he doesn't hesitate to help which has been so appreciated. Also we have been on the receiving end of some much needed service, a place I had never been before (as far as being in need of help). We had so many meals made for us from our ward that we are brand new in, from people that don't even know us! They brought over the yummiest dinners and little get well gifts like nail polish, a massager, lotions and all sorts of fun things. Also a few of my wonderful friends have made delicious dinners for us too! This whole experience has been such a huge testimony builder for me! I have always tried to serve others but being on the receiving end has put it into a whole new perspective. We are soo grateful for all those that have helped us out these last two weeks, it has been greatly appreciated!

October 24th, 2012 was a day that has forever changed our world and these two (almost three!) weeks have been proof of that! Our healthy, precious baby boy is the center of our Universe and we feel so blessed to have him as part of our family! It took 9 months of trying and 9 months of waiting and now he is finally here and life is complete!
